That’s a Wrap! Outlander Celebrates the Completion of Filming Season 3

Outlander cast and crew celebrated end of filming season 3 today.  Now it’s on to the editing room.

Outlander season 3 will follow Diana Gabaldon’s 3rd book in the Outlander series titled Voyager. A good number of book fans will tell you that Voyager was one of their favorite books including myself.

Warning may contain spoilers!

Voyager begins right after battle of Culloden between the British and the Scots.   At Jamie’s insistence Claire has went back though the stone to 1948 because she was carrying Jamie’s unborn child and he wanted to protect her from the battle.   One of the reason’s this is a favorite book is that it tells of Jamie and Claire’s lives without each other for 20 years. When Claire discovers that Jamie didn’t die on Culloden battlefield and she decides to go back through the stones to reunite with him.

This reunion is one of the most anticipated events for season 3 by fans and is referred to as The Printshop scene.

Outlander writer, Diana Gabaldon confirmed herself that the Printshop scene meets with her approval.

To which she replied

Other scenes fans are looking forward to are the Brothel, & Turtle Soup. There are far too many good scenes in this book and fans are hoping that they don’t get put on the cutting room floor.

So today was the last day of Outlander filming and Twitter lit up like a jar full of lighting bugs you caught on a summer’s evening. Here are some of the happenings across social media today.

After Roark gyms in South Africa announced that Sam would be doing a Facebook live with them he posted on Twitter the following.

Caitriona sent out a thank you to the crew for all their hard work.

All writer/producer Matt Roberts had to say was…

No wonder the man is tired he’s work is never done.

Caitriona says this season has been like birthing a baby. Which is appropriate since her character Claire does give birth in season 3.

It’s a wrap party birth pool

Barking Mad for the First Outlander Season 4 Cast Members

Today Starz released the news of the first new members or should I say member, to the Season 4 cast.

Guess who!     Rollo!

These 2 precious pups were cast to play young Ian Murray’s canine companion in Outlander season 4 which will follow the book by the name of Drums of Autumn written by Diana Gabaldon.

I can’t wait to see John Bell, who is cast as young Ian, in action with Rollo.

John Hunter Bell cast as young Ian Murray

This pair looks to be about 3-4 months old at time of these photos.  I’m sure they had to be cast early to undergo their training.  In the books when Ian wins the the dog in a card game he’s fully grown but still basically a pup.  The bond between Ian & Rollo is a very strong one. Let’s hope we get to see that bond on screen. Everyone loves a boy & his dog.

Season 4 hasn’t begun to shooting yet as they are not completed with season 3 yet.   Season 3 will air sometime in September but no specific date has been announced yet.

Outlander: Young Ian and Joe Abernathy Cast for Season 3

COURTESY OF STARZ

Outlander” has cast two pivotal roles for Season 3, Variety has learned.

Joining Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) world in the 18th century, John Bell (“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”) will play the role of Young Ian Murray, Jamie’s nephew. Young Ian is a tall, gangly Scottish lad with a heart of gold, a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting into trouble. Bursting with charm, he’s more like his adventurous, fierce uncle Jamie than his farmer father Ian — but when we meet him, he is still a very gawky boy. However, he keeps trying to prove that he is a man and we will see him grow into quite a formidable one as the series evolves.

Meanwhile, in Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) life in 20th Century Boston, Wil Johnson (“Waking the Dead”) will play her friend and medical colleague, Joe Abernathy. Joe is a fellow doctor-in-training whom Claire befriends in medical school. Intelligent, charismatic, with a wry and irreverent sense of humor, Joe is a loyal confidant with great affection for Claire. He puts on a good face, but he is all too aware of his place in the Civil Rights era. Joe and Claire both feel out of place in the mostly all-white, all-male medical field, which bonds them together in a lifelong friendship.

Season 3 of Starz’s “Outlander” is based on the third novel in Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling series, “Voyager.” The third season picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: When they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?

Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Anne Kenney and Andy Harries serve as executive producers of “Outlander,” which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. Starz retains all domestic multiplatform pay TV rights to the original series.
