‘Outlander’ Caitriona Balfe is Making Sam Heughan Jealous, Spends Days with ‘Pure Magic’

Droughtlander is probably draining most fans now, but no more worries, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have promised that Outlander Season 3 is worth the wait. Since the filming has already wrapped up, the actress has taken some solo time to explore the world of South Africa and its “pure magic.” Recently, she shared the photos from her getaway, displaying the wonders of the safari reserve.

While everyone has to stay calm until the September premiere, the onscreen couple has been teasing tidbits of information through cute Twitter conversations for their dedicated followers. Now that the Season 3 filming is finished, the cast members could take a break from the set and enjoy it to the fullest.

Needless to say, Balfe seized her days in Cape Town by exploring the perfect South African safari destination. Heughan was out of sight during the trip and is probably sulking at the missed opportunity to enjoy wildlife with his co-star.

Outlander Caitriona Balfe Spends Time in Pristine South African Wilderness

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe spent most days together in Cape Town as they filmed the sea voyage scenes for Outlander Season 3. In previous social media posts, fans saw the duo enjoying the rugby game and shopping at the mall in South Africa. But this time around, the actress appeared to have taken a moment to explore the place without her co-star beside her.

The 37-year-old beauty shared a snap on Instagram with a caption: “It’s been an amazing few days. Too short but yet filled with pure magic. Thank you.” One of her fans commented, “So glad you got to start your much needed break in an enjoyable way! Mind you, you and @samheughan make work look so fun! Thanks for sharing the fascinating wildlife shots! #elephants #love.” Another wrote, “How wonderful Cait! So happy for you to get to experience such an amazing treasure! What a beautiful thing to do!”

In another post, Balfe shared a photo featuring the rhinos and captioned it with: “Still can’t quite believe all the amazing encounters we had.” The actress thanked Kariega Game Reserve, a family-owned private safari reserve located in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. This malaria-free game reserve gives you an opportunity to get a close-up encounter with the country’s wildlife including lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, leopards, and others.

Frank and Black Jack Randall might be around as long as #Outlander is — and we don’t necessarily hate it

We already know that we’ll be seeing more Frank (Tobias Menzies) in Season 3 of Outlander than book fans would expect, but it may not be the last we see of Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) first husband, or his evil 18th century ancestor.

Diana Gabaldon’s book Voyager, on which the third season is based, is the last time Claire is in the 1900s. That means there aren’t a lot of pages of Frank’s story left in the book series. The show will already expand on Frank’s presence by exploring what Claire’s life was like with Frank after she returned through the rocks before the Battle of Culloden — pregnant with Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) child — more deeply.

It’s a period that Outlander executive producer Ron Moore says is necessary to understand who Claire is when she learns that Jamie survived Culloden 20 years after the fact.

“The story requires [Frank]’s presence. Claire, from the beginning, was married to Frank and spent the entire first book trying to get back to him,” Moore explained to TVGuide.com at the ATX Television Festival in Austin. “She’s found the love of her life in Jamie Fraser, but there’s still this man that has this hold on her so she feels like she needs to go back. That to me says that’s a really strong character and an important character. To understand Claire, you need to understand the nature of that relationship with Frank.”

Frank remains an important part of the story in Season 3 as we have to learn who Claire and their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) have become in the time they spent with him in Boston.

“When she returns to the 20th century, Frank raises Brianna. Again, he’s a very important figure in the story,” Moore said. “He is the father figure that Brianna knew as opposed to Jamie. Claire spent 20 years with him before he died. We needed to bring that part of the story forward to really understand how all these things work.”

Voyager marks the last serious mentions of Frank and his 18th century counterpart Black Jack Randall in the Outlander book series. Frank dies in the 1960s and Black Jack is fated to die in the same battle Jamie survives. However, Season 3 may not be the last we see of Claire’s first husband or the man who terrorized her and her husband in the past.

Moore admits that is in part because actor Tobias Menzies does such a tremendous job inhabiting both roles. The show isn’t afraid to embrace future mentions of either character as a chance to bring Menzies back in later seasons.

Outlander Season 3 Spoilers: Claire and Jamie Will Be Apart for a While at the Start of the Season

“Droughtlander” might be ending in under three months, but that doesn’t mean that Outlanderfans are going to see their favorite couple back together when the show returns.

Outlander last left off with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) separated by 200 years of history. Claire had returned to the 1940s before the Battle of Culloden to protect their unborn child while Jamie went back to fight with his countrymen and presumably die.

It took Claire 20 years in her own timeline to discover that Jamie had managed to live through the bloody battle. She ended the Season 2 finale declaring to her now adult daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) that they have to go back to find Jamie. Unfortunately, the search for him will not be that easy.

“We’re going to keep them apart for a while,” executive producer Ron Moore teased to TVGuide.com at the ATX Television Festival in Austin.

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, OutlanderCaitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, OutlanderClaire and Jamie’s separation tracks with how Diana Gabaldon’s third book in the Outlanderseries, on which the show is based, plays out. Moore admits that some structural changes are being made to the story, but reuniting Claire and Jamie right off the bat is not one of them.

“The majority of the major events are in the season, but we are probably going to reorder them and present them slightly differently,” Moore said. “The third book is a clean narrative as opposed to the second book –which was a very complicated narrative. It still went to Jamie’s storyline for a very long time and then Claire catches up.”

The beginning of the season will do a lot to fill in the story of Claire’s life with Frank (Tobias Menzies) in Boston after she returned through the stones at the end of Season 2.

“One of the things we wanted to do was talk about what Claire was doing in those 20 years as well,” Moore said. “The way we’ve structured the season allows you to experience both [Jamie and Claire’s lives] at the same time.”

That may sound like terrible news to some fans, but luckily Claire will have some assistance in finding her way back to Jamie. Brianna and Roger (Richard Rankin) will be there to help her figure out what Jamie was doing in Scotland after he escaped the battle. Helping Claire will also help bring the young lovebirds closer together.

Is it September yet??? Outlander Filming Nearly Finished!

Anticipation is growing among the Outlander fandom as cast and crew take to social media. It’s always fun to see the banter going on between them as not only does it let the fans know little tidbits but it also shows the camaraderie between them all. One big happy Outlander family 😊

I’ve put together several posts and pictures posted that will surly have fans wishing summer was over already and September was here.

So here goes…

Recently Sam posted they were filming the penultimate which is the next to the last episode for the season

I can only imagine what we’ll be seeing when this airs but I really don’t want to think about that episode just yet because when it does air that will mean just 1 more episode 😢

Maril Davis, one of Outlander’s executive producer’s posted this photos of eggs made up to be Jamie & Claire on the beach that she and Caitriona drew. Can you guess who drew which one? 😂

And Sam replied…

Maril’s brother made this remark on her art skills…LOL

Well…Maril it was a good effort 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just like a man all Sam could think about was his stomach 😂😂😂

To be honest I’m not sure why Maril would need such a wintery hat when they are shooting in South Africa. Let me check the weather there BRB. Nope I wouldn’t see why she would need that but hey to each his/her own.🤷🏻‍♀️ At any rate Sam wants to borrow it 😆

I suppose he needs this for when they go back to Scotland & Maril says it’s his if he wants it.

Writer/Producer Matt Roberts also posts some of the most beautiful photos from Cape Town, SA

Before the storm #capetown #capestorm #stormofthecentury Wish us luck #outlander

A post shared by Matthew B. Roberts (@nofoolingproductions) on

Sam retweeted this picture of the recent Cape Town storm Matt was referring too.

Funny there should be a storm right when they are most likely shooting scenes that include a storm also. Sam referred to that early when he stated he had sand in places it shouldn’t be…hehehe

They are at the end of shooting season 3 with only about a week left according to Sam’s tweet.

To which Sam replys:

Filming maybe complete but there is still a lot that goes on behind the scenes after the shoot is over.

Sam says Cait is willing to lend a hand with editing if Matt needs it.

I don’t know about you but I think they better leave the theme & music in the hands of Bear McCreary. He hasn’t let us Outlander fans down yet with his choices. So Cait you needn’t worry about dragging out your accordion just yet.

‘Outlander’ fans: Your favorite show won’t earn any Emmy nominations

Outlander” fans, don’t be upset when your favorite show doesn’t earn any Emmy nominations this year. Because “Outlander” didn’t air any new episodes during the eligibility period that ended May 31, 2017, it must sit out of this year’s Emmy race. Starz has announced that the hit fantasy series will premiere its third season in September 2017, so it will definitely be back for the 2018 Emmys.

Season 3 of “Outlander” will consist of 13 episodes based on “Voyager,” the third novel in Diana Gabaldon‘s eight-book series. The story will pick up right after Claire (Caitriona Balfe) returns to 1948 pregnant with Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) child. Her sudden return to the 20th century will have consequences for her marriage to Frank (Tobias Menzies). Meanwhile, Jamie endures the aftermath of the battle of Culloden, and the two time-separated lovers try to make a life without each other. Outlander tourism boosts visits from North America

The popularity of “ancestral tourism” off the back of hit TV show Outlander, combined with an increase in direct air routes has boosted tourism to Scotland from North America by almost a fifth, new figures have shown.

Official data revealed that Edinburgh is the second most popular city for overseas visitors in the UK after London, while the overall number of international tourists visiting Scotland rose by six per cent last year. Glasgow was also in the top ten, ranked as the sixth most popular UK destination.

However, the number of visitors from the “EU15” European countries – the mainly western European nations which joined the European Union before the 2004 expansion, dipped by almost four per cent – due, experts said, to increased competition from destinations such as Iceland and Scandinavia.

Overall spending from countries in the EU in Scotland was down by six per cent to £833 million, which tourism chiefs said could be attributed to an increase in self-drive holidays across Europe and a “more cautious” approach to spending because of the geo-political situation.

The report, from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), added that more visits from other EU countries such as Poland and Romania were in the “VFR” – or “visiting friends and relatives” category due to the large numbers of people from those countries living in Scotland – which could account for lower spending on the part of their friends and family due to cheaper accommodation costs.

VisitScotland chief executive, Malcolm Roughead said: “A growing interest in ancestral tourism, which in part has been fuelled by the success of the hit television series Outlander, as well as increased airline capacity, has continued to see visitors from North America coming here in large numbers.

“Tourism is more than a holiday experience – it creates jobs and sustains communities in every corner of Scotland all year round. Thanks to the hard work of tourism businesses across the country, we are on track to reach the industry’s Tourism Scotland 2020 target to generate economic growth.”

Visitors from overseas spent an extra £155 million during their stay – an increase of nine per cent compared with the previous year. Scotland’s increase compares with a four per cent rise in overseas visits and a two per cent hike in overseas expenditure for the UK as a whole.

VisitScotland said that growth from North America could be attributed to an increase in airline capacity between North America and Scotland, with airlines such as Delta, Icelandair, Air Canada Rouge, Air Transit and WOW contributing a further 90,000 seats throughout 2016.

Tourism Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “These figures underline Scotland’s appeal as a world-class tourism destination and are a credit to our tourism industry’s hard work to attract and welcome more than 2.7 million overseas visitors last year.”

Everything You Need to Know About Outlander Season 3 – Today’s News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Outlander Season 3 is still a while away, but that doesn’t stop die-hard fans from needing to know all the developments about what is in store for Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).

First, the season will be based on Voyager, the third book in Diana Gabaldon‘s Outlander novel series. It will see Claire return to 18th Century Scotland with her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and historian Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) in tow. The good news is that production has already started on the third season, and Starz has already picked Outlander up for a fourth season as well.

Check out all the other major Season 3 announcements below:

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, OutlanderCaitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, Outlander

We will see the Battle of Culloden: The first photo of Sam Heughan on set for Season 3 arrived in September, showing our favorite ginger in bloody clothing after the big battle. Executive producers have already revealed that the season premiere will show what happened on the field before Jamie escaped with his life, and fans will absolutely get to see the final duel between Jamie and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).

Fergus is all grown up: Some time will have definitely passed by the time Claire, Brianna and Roger make their way back through the stones. We know because Cesar Domboy has been cast as a grown-up version of the Frasers’ adopted son. We will also meet Lauren Lyle as Marsali, Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) grown-up daughter. She and Fergus are a romantic item in Gabaldon’s novel.

Outlander: 10 burning questions we have for Season 3

There are more new faces: Starz has also announced the casting of John Bell as Jamie’s nephew, Ian. He’s described as a tall, gangly Scottish lad with a heart of gold, a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting into trouble. Wil Johnson also joins the cast as Joe Abernathy, a medical colleague of Claire’s when she gets her surgical license in Boston during the 20th Century.

We’ll also see Frank and Claire’s marriage: What was Claire’s life like during the 20 years she lived with Frank (also Menzies) and thought that Jamie was dead? Gabaldon told TVGuide.com that she’s seen early cuts of the first four episodes of the season already and that Frank is a lot more present than he was in her books in order to show what Claire went through during their years married to each other.
