Outlander producer Toni Graphia has told Digital Spy that Game of Thrones‘ eighth and final season gave the show something to think about.
The period drama is based on Diana Gabaldon’s hugely successful book series, and now Graphia has suggested that Thrones‘ televisual leapfrogging of author George RR Martin’s own series is something the makers like to reference.
In conversation with Digital Spy, Graphia – whose credits also include Grey’s Anatomy and Battlestar Galactica – explained: “We always joke about Game of Thrones because Game of Thrones caught up with the books and had to pass where the books were.
“So when I see Diane, I always tease her that we’re going to try to catch up to her. We probably never will, but I like pretending it’s a bit of a horse-race, where we’re nipping at her heels.”
But does the author feel any pressure from this?
“She always says she’s going to do… I don’t know. Like, 10 is what she says,” the producer continued. “But she’s such a prolific writer, it wouldn’t surprise me if she kept going. As long as she keeps going, we’ll keep going.”
